Western Cape - Civil Aviation Authority investigators were on their way to the scene where a light aircraft crashed on Thursday morning, leaving two people dead in Klipheuwel in the Western Cape.

“At this stage we do not have a lot of details but we are aware that there were two fatalities,” spokeswoman Marie Bray said.

“As (in) all airplane crashes it will be investigated. CAA investigators are on their way to the crash scene.”

Earlier, ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said the aircraft crashed on the R304 while going to land at a private airfield.

She said paramedics and rescuers were called to the R304 where the aircraft had caught alight after it crash-landed.

“When the rescuers arrived there was nothing more that could be done for the two occupants, as their remains were badly burnt,” she said in a statement.

“The two were declared dead at the scene.”

Bray said more details would be made available at a later stage. - Sapa
