Mom, son die in cruise tragedy
A family fishing adventure on Women’s Day has turned into tragedy after six people on a river cruise are presumed to have drowned.
The bodies of a woman and a child, thought to be her eight-year-old son, have been found.
At about 8.30pm last night, the NSRI was alerted that the group’s return was overdue after a fishing trip on the Keurbooms River in Plettenberg Bay. The river is typically calm and safe for leisure boating.
Spokesman Craig Lambinon reported: “It is unknown at this stage if the boat and the missing people were swept out of the river mouth and it is unknown what caused their disappearance.”
The child’s father, who was not on the boat, has been told that his wife and son’s bodies have been found, said Lambinon. Police have not released the names of the missing or dead. The search was continuing.
