Unite behind Olympic team: ANC

Johannesburg - South Africans must unite behind local athletes in the team headed to London for the Olympic Games, the ANC said on Thursday.

“We have no doubt that all athletes will represent South Africa with great determination and zest. We are confident that they will come back home with well-deserved medals and their heads held high,” African National Congress spokesman Jackson Mthembu said in a statement.

“With the support of all South Africans, we are confident that team South Africa will perform better than they did in the 2008

Beijing Olympic Games.”

The 125-member team, which will compete in 17 sports, left for London on Thursday.
