Johannesburg - Two of the eight men killed in a suicide blast in Kabul, Afghanistan were identified in a newspaper report on Wednesday.

One of them had recently become a father, reported Beeld newspaper.

Willow, the second daughter of pilot Brandon Booth, 47, of Balgowan in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, is two months old.

“We've just had a baby… this is a terrible time,” said Booth's girlfriend Darryl Wood, who told Beeld the couple also had a five-year-old girl Zara.

Beeld identified another pilot, Fraser Carey, 32, who was survived by his fiancee Lisa Sella.

The Afrikaans daily reported that all those killed had been employed by the Johannesburg company, ACS/BalmOral.

Carey, from Johannesburg, had worked as a “bush pilot” in Maun, Botswana, before going to Afghanistan.

Booth previously worked for the United Nations in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and had been in Afghanistan for two years.

The South African victims included another pilot, three flight engineers and a woman who worked in ACS/Balmoral's operations room at Kabul airport.

The suicide bomber, thought to be a woman, also died in the attack, as did the Afghan minibus driver, a ground crew member from Kirgistan and a pedestrian.
